What do I need to do to sell or transfer my interest?
Please send a copy of the recorded assignment and/or deed. The document needs to be recorded in the county where the well is located.

Change of Ownership

Listed below are some common situations that result in a change of ownership. All changes must be submitted in writing.

Address Change

Complete the PDC Energy Inc. change of address form. Include owner number, old address, new address, social security number (or last four digits), and signature. Mail, fax, scan, or email the completed form to PDC Energy Inc.

Appointment of Attorney-in-Fact (AIF) or Power of Attorney (POA)

Copy of Power of Attorney

Bankruptcy – Chapter 11

Plan of Reorganization - Order Confirming the Plan of Reorganization

Bankruptcy – Chapter 7

Recorded conveyance (as appropriate) - Order Naming Trustee of Bankruptcy Estate

Company/Corporation name change

Certificate of Name Change including Tax ID

Company/Corporation name change due to a merger

Certificate of Merger including Tax ID

Name Change – Marriage Divorce, etc.

Copy of the marriage certificate, divorce decree, or other legal documentation (recorded in the county where the property is located)

Ownership change due to divorce

Complete Divorce Decree including Settlement Agreement, recorded conveyances (if appropriate)

Owner dies with a Will

Copy of:

  • Death Certificate
  • Last Will & Testament (recorded in the county where the property is located)
  • Final Decree of Distribution (recorded in the county where the property is located)
  • If the probate is not finalized yet then we will need the document appointing an executor of the Estate Testament (recorded in the county where the property is located).
Copy of the names, addresses and telephone numbers of each heir to whom the interest is to be transferred.

Owner dies with a Will - Probate proceedings are to be conducted in a state other than the state where the property is located

Copy of:

  • Death Certificate
  • Last Will and Testament
  • Letters Testamentary (recorded in the county where the property is located)
  • Order Admitting Will To Probate-Final Decree of Distribution or Judgment of Possession (recorded in the county where the property is located)
  • Evidence debts and taxes have been paid. Documentation of ancillary probate proceedings opened in all affected states or Affidavit of Heirship Testament (recorded in the county where the property is located).

Owner dies without a Will

Copy of:

  • Death Certificate
  • Final Decree of Distribution (recorded in the county where the property is located)
  • If the probate is not finalized yet then we will need the document appointing an executor of the Estate (recorded in the county where the property is located).
  • Copy of the names, addresses and telephone numbers of each heir to whom the interest is to be transferred.

Affidavit of Heirship Form filled out by a disinterested third party (recorded in the county where the property is located).

Joint Tenancy (JT) – one dies

Copy of death certificate of the deceased Joint Tenant

Trust/Partnership created

Trust or Partnership Agreement and, if appropriate, recorded document conveying the interest in a property to a Trust or Partnership

Trustee changes

Instrument whereby the successor trustee was Appointed (recorded in the county where the property is located).

Trust/Partnership terminated

Dissolution of Trust or Partnership and, if appropriate, recorded conveyances to beneficiary.
